The J. Edwards Glove Company began operations in a small backyard manufacturing plant located in Appleton, Wisconsin sometime in the early 1940’s. John Edwards was a tradesman who saw the need for a better glove for his industry’s workers, a glove that could meet their need for hand protection with durability, comfort and fit. His company set these ideals as their goal for manufacturing locally a quality glove for area industries, while reducing cost by using Wisconsin tanned Buckskin leather. “Buckskin” is considered to be heavy weight deer or elk leather, of which there was an abundant supply from local tanneries. Local power utility lineworkers quickly saw the value in his products and soon became the main market for his products. The company increased their product offerings by adding leather protectors for rubber insulating gloves as well as different styles and designs of their all leather work gloves. Although company ownership changed in the 1960’s and again in the mid 1990’s, Edwards continued to manufacture high quality gloves marketed and manufactured to electrical utility specifications. Operating within miles of its original location in Northern Wisconsin’s Fox Valley area, J. Edwards Co. began to offer its customers the choice of high quality domestic gloves or a new Economy Series imported hand protection to meet customer needs and requirements. In 2003, the company again changed ownership, this time moving its operations to an existing glove manufacturing facility on the Near West Side of Chicago, Illinois. Today, EDWARDS GLOVE still manufactures our original line of high quality domestic manufactured all leather work gloves and leather protectors for all classes and styles of rubber insulating gloves available today. EDWARDS GLOVE uses the highest quality raw materials, in patterns long accepted by the industry, and in styles proven to withstand the test of power utility lineworkers worldwide. |
